Fall TV Update!

TV shows come and go, but a few that I previously mentioned are still going strong. Madam Secretary (CBS) has Tea Leoni as a former CIA agent who takes on the role of Secretary of State after an accident claims the life of the office’s previous occupant. A recent episode that just aired was filmed in Massapequa and Massapequa’s Nautilus diner!

Another hit The Affair (Showtime) has been renewed for a second season. The show is based on an extramarital relationship between two troubled married people a New York City teacher and a young waitress. The best part of the show is how it is told. It is split into two perspectives, one from the teacher’s side and the other the waitress’. If you are a fan of drama and romance tune in!

State of Affairs - Season 1My other two picks were unfortunately not so long-lasting.  Say goodbye to Fox’s Utopia and ABC’s Manhattan Love Story.

The last show I recommended State of Affairs (NBC) just premiered this Monday night. According to several media outlets, Katherine Heigl is notoriously difficult to work with and doesn’t have many fans in the film industry. How will this bad press affect the popularity of the show? Time will only tell.

I would like to announce another TV show you should check out, The Librarians (TNT)! TNT ordered a 10-episode weekly series version of The Librarian, following the original cast that includes Noah Wyle, Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin, as well as four new characters who work for The Library. Here are some new characters:

  •  Eve Baird (Rebecca Romijn), who is a counter-terrorism agent who protects the group.
  • Jake Stone (Christian Kane), who has an IQ of 190 and extensive knowledge of Art History.
  • Cassandra (Lindy Booth), who has the special gift of auditory and sensory hallucinations linked to memory retrieval.
  • Ezekiel Jones (John Kim), “a master of technologies” and fan of classic crimes who enjoys playing the role of international man of mystery.
  • Jenkins (John Larroquette) will serve as the reluctant,  caretaker; he’s worked at The Library’s branch office “for longer than anyone knows” and has extensive knowledge of ancient lore.

The series is set to premiere on December 7th. You can see the trailer here:

New Fall Shows 2014: My Picks!

Summer is wrapping up, school is almost in session and the days will eventually get a bit colder. Colder weather means more reading and television time! Sadly, one of my favorite shows True Blood is about to end, however there are new shows premiering this fall. Here are my picks of what you should not miss!

Adrien-Brody-as-Houdini_event_mainIf you are short on time, I would recommend Houdini on the History Channel. This two-part miniseries stars Adrien Brody, it chronicles the legendary performer’s life by recounting his various stunts and illusions. Premieres: Monday, Sep. 1 at 9:00pm

newspic040214_fox_utopiaThe reality TV pick for this fall is Utopia on Fox. In this experimental reality series, 15 contestants thrown into the wilderness to spend an entire year building their own society with their own rules. Reality TV meets Lord of the Flies, not sure if I will continue to watch after the first few episodes but I plan on giving it a try. Premieres: Sunday, Sep. 7th at 8:00pm.

madamsecretarycbsMadam Secretary (CBS) has Tea Leoni as a former CIA agent whose former boss, now the president, asks her to take on the role of Secretary of State after an accident claims the life of the office’s previous occupant. Premieres: Sunday, Sep. 21 at 8:00pm Watch the preview here!

manhattan-love-story-abcOver on ABC, Manhattan Love Story is a new comedy about a New York City man and a Midwestern transplant woman who navigate an awkward first date and subsequent budding romance. This show might offer a new laughs, so I will be tuning in. Premieres: Tuesday, Sep. 30 at 8:00pm

TheAffairShowtimeFor those that have Showtime, The Affair examines the emotional and psychological effects of infidelity on two different marriages all set in the glamorous Hamptons. Premieres: After Homeland, Sunday, Oct. 12 at 10:00pm.

State_of_Affairs_NBC (1)Premiering fairly late into autumn, State of Affairs on NBC stars Katherine Heigl as a top CIA attaché who’s tasked to put together a briefing for the president to assess the greatest threats to national security. And just in case that doesn’t sound stressful enough, she spends what little free time she has hunting down the terrorists who killed her fiancé, who also happened to be the president’s son. Can Katherine Heigl pull off a dramatic role? We’ll have to see. Premieres: Monday, Nov. 17 at 10:00pm. Watch the preview here!

Very few new shows are actually renewed so time will tell if these make it. In the meantime I have to prepare my DVR for multitasking, Homeland, Reign, Revenge, Walking Dead, Scandal, and Downton Abbey are all back with new episodes!
